Join Our Around-the-Clock Blood Pressure and Cognition Research Study and Make a Difference!

We are conducting a research study to better understand how blood pressure changes across the day and night may relate to brain health in older adults. Your participation can help researchers improve knowledge that could benefit future patients.

What is ABPM (Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring)?

ABPM is a better way to evaluate your blood pressure health — as compared to a assessment in a doctor’s office. This gives a much more complete and accurate view of your blood pressure control as you go about your normal day-night activities across the sleep-wake cycle.

Why Is This Research Important?

Blood pressure naturally fluctuates throughout the day and night, and these changes may provide clues about overall cardiovascular and cognitive health. By studying these patterns, researchers hope to gain insights into how blood pressure regulation over the 24-hour cycle might be linked with memory, thinking, and aging.

This research could contribute to improving prevention and treatment strategies for conditions that affect heart and brain health in the future.

What Are We Studying?

We are studying how blood pressure patterns over a 48-hour period relate to cognitive performance and daily activity levels in adults aged 70 years and older who are taking medication for high blood pressure.

Who Can Join?

You may be eligible if:

  • You are 70 or older
  • You are taking medication for high blood pressure

What will you do?

If eligible, here’s what to expect:

  1. A brief 45-minute visit to our research office
    – Includes a digital cognitive test
    – We’ll provide the devices and explain how to use them
  1. At-home monitoring:
  • Wear a BP monitor for 48 hours — it’s lightweight and automatic
  • Wear a Garmin smartwatch for 7 days to track activity and sleep
  • Return devices in a prepaid box we provide

Participants may receive up to  $150 for your participation and $50 to cover transportation costs for your visit to our research office.
