Agustín Ibáñez is an Argentinean neuroscientist specializing in global approaches to addressing diversity and disparities in brain health. He is a full professor and director at the Latin American Brain Health Institute (BrainLat) at Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez (UAI, Chile). He leads the Global Brain Health Institute’s International Program in Global Brain Health Research at Trinity College Dublin. Additionally, he directs the Predictive Brain Health Modeling Group at Trinity College and is a Global Brain Health Institute Research Associate Professor.
Dr. Ibáñez has secured significant international funding from organizations such as the NIH/NIA, Alzheimer’s Association, Horizon 2020, and others, amounting to over $28 million to support collaborative initiatives like ReDLat and LAC-CD. These projects involve researchers across 15 sites in the US and Latin America, focusing on developing computational neuroscience and machine learning frameworks to address diversity’s impact on brain health.
With over 370 publications, including articles in top-tier journals such as Nature Medicine, Lancet Neurology, and Trends in Cognitive Sciences, Dr. Ibanez’s work highlights the biological effects of structural inequalities on brain health. He is also a consultant for leading companies and organizations in digital biomarkers and dementia research.
Dr. Ibáñez has received numerous prestigious awards, including the ALBA-Elsevier Award on Brain Sciences and the Nelson Butters Award of the International Neuropsychological Society. His efforts in advancing Latin American translational neuroscience include mentoring over 40 postgraduate students, establishing frameworks for training scientists, and engaging underserved communities. His research has been featured in major outlets like Nature News, the BBC, and Le Monde.
